Are Used Chrysler Vehicles More Fuel-Efficient?

Chrysler vehicles are known for their combination of performance, handling, and longevity. But, what kind of fuel efficiency can you find in used Chrysler cars? Do pre-owned models provide equal or less fuel efficiency?

Fuel Economy of Pre-owned Chrysler Cars

There’s a notion that pre-owned cars are less fuel-efficient. After all, the vehicle has accrued several thousand miles, and the parts are no longer new. Here’s the truth: as long the vehicle receives regular maintenance at a certified dealership, then it’s comparable in mileage to a new vehicle.

With this in mind, here are some actions you can take to maintain the vehicle’s optimal efficiency.

Air Filter Change

When the air filter gets old, it loses its ability to intercept debris. Solid particles get into the oil. These impurities in the oil force the engine to work harder, requiring it to use more fuel to deliver the required output. The air filter should be replaced every 15,000 to 30,000 miles.

Use Cruise Control

When driving on the freeway or highway under minimal traffic, activate your vehicle’s cruise control feature. This allows your car to coast at a steady speed while consuming minimal fuel. Do not, however, use cruise control under stop-and-go driving conditions.

Clean the Engine

About once a week, open the hood and clear the engine of debris, such as leaves and dirt. When there are solid particles in the way, this can obstruct air flow, leading to a hotter engine that ultimately consumes more fuel.
