Cutting Back on Jeep Fuel Costs

Jeep® service is critical for optimum performance, not to mention peak fuel efficiency. Learn the ways you can cut back on Jeep fuel costs. The following are easy methods you can incorporate into your driving routine.

Adjust the Windows

As a general rule, you should roll the windows down at speeds under 35 mph. If going over 35 mph, keep the windows up. At higher speeds, having the windows down may have a negative impact on aerodynamics.

Clear Your Trunk

Does the trunk contain unnecessary items? Remove the nonessentials.

Typically, only emergency items should be permanently inside the trunk, such as jumper cables, bottled water, a spare tire, etc. The excess weight forces the engine to work harder and consume more fuel, especially during acceleration.

Avoid Sudden Acceleration and Braking

Slamming on either the gas or brake pedal consumes a lot of fuel. Always accelerate gradually.

As far as braking, only slam on the brakes in an emergency. Keeping a four- to six-second following distance of the car ahead should prevent most scenarios where you have to come to a sudden stop.

Use Cruise Control

Most modern Jeep vehicles come with adaptive cruise control as a standard feature. Use this feature when cruising along freeways or highways.

This will keep Jeep fuel costs to a minimum while also making your commutes more effortless. However, you should avoid using cruise control when traversing hills or roads with a steep incline.
